Join a Company Where You Can Make a Real Impact – and Own a Piece of the Future

Are you energized by the idea of helping a company grow smarter, serve our customers better, and connect more deeply? Do you thrive in an environment where your ideas matter, your voice is heard, and your work drives real results? If so, we’d love to meet you.

We’re a mid-sized, employee-owned company on a mission to create meaningful value for both our employees and our customers. That means we’re not just looking for someone to fill a seat — we’re looking for someone who wants to build, innovate, and evolve with us.

Our company primarily serves the Navy and other Department of Defense clients, offering a dynamic environment where your expertise will make a difference.

About the Role

AVIAN is seeking a Journeyman Graphic Design & Multimedia Specialist to support a Naval Air Systems Command’s (NAVAIR) Program Office. In this role, you will create high‑quality visual products—including multimedia, graphic design, wall displays, motion graphics, and video production—that communicate complex messages clearly and effectively to internal and external stakeholders. The ideal candidate brings strong visual design capabilities, a deep understanding of multimedia workflows, and the ability to translate strategic communication needs into impactful visual products.

While the primary focus of this role is visual and multimedia production, the position also provides supporting communication and public affairs writing as needed.

You will be part of AVIAN’s creative cadre of designers, multimedia specialists, writers, and communication professionals. The team embraces peer collaboration, constructive critique, and continuous professional development.

This position predominantly operates on‑site at NAS Patuxent River.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities

  • Design and production of multimedia and visual communication products, including infographics, illustrations, briefs, branding materials, wall displays, printed and digital collateral, motion graphics, and video content, using Adobe Creative Suite and other industry-standard tools.
  • Produce high‑quality video and multimedia deliverables, including scripting support, storyboarding, filming coordination, editing, audio/visual enhancements, and final output optimization for various platforms.
  • Create and maintain cohesive visual branding for initiatives, events, campaigns, and senior leadership requirements.
  • Support the development of presentation materials, executive‑level visuals, and communication assets for internal and external audiences.
  • Provide secondary/supporting assistance for writing tasks, such as captions, short articles, key messages, talking points, social media content, or other communication products, following AP Style and government guidelines.
  • Assist in public affairs and public relations support when required, including event support, multimedia support for leadership engagements, protocol activities, and coordination with Public Affairs Offices.
  • Manage multiple design and multimedia projects simultaneously while ensuring quality, consistency, and adherence to deadlines.
  • Collaborate closely with communication, technical, and program teams to translate complex subject matter into clear, compelling visual products.
  • Occasional travel may be required.

Qualifications

  • BS or BA degree from an accredited college or university in Graphic Design, Multimedia Production, Communication, Visual Arts, or a related discipline.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, After Effects, Premiere Pro, etc.).
  • Experience producing multimedia and visual communication products within a technical, defense, government, or corporate environment is preferred.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to work autonomously or as part of a team in a fast‑paced production environment.
  • Portfolio showcasing professional graphic design and multimedia work is strongly recommended.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Department of Defense security clearance.
  • Due to the sensitivity of customer-related requirements, U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • Salary range: $70,000 - $90,000 (The offered rate will be based on the selected candidate’s knowledge, skills, abilities, and/or experience and in consideration of internal parity.)
